I've created an Android app to help and make easier all checklists for our Taifun 17E. It is fully adaptable to any aircraft and I believe it is easy to use, including voice commands for hands free use. 

It is still in test phase so it cannot be directly accessed in Google Play, but I can add anyone interested in the test list so you can download it there.  I'd just need you to share the email address you use in Android. 

Of course this is a personal project, so feedback is very welcomed.

After a number of happy years with a Scheibe Falke I am considering upgrading and buying my dream TMG, a Taifun. I flew one for a couple of hours some time ago and I loved it. Cruising speed, soaring ability, and engine off glide are all very impressive and of course vastly superior to my Falke (no surprises there). So - a few questions to this community:

1/ I am based in Europe, where the Taifun is a type certified aircraft and thus subject to rather a lot of bureaucratic oversight, maintenance rules, limitations on which engine/propeller combinations may be used etc. I understand that in the US the Taifun can be flown as "Experimental" in the TMG category, thereby giving the owner more freedom in regards to maintenance and so on. Is this true, and where could I find out more about this? My thinking is that it might be possible to put the aircraft on the N-register but keep operating in Europe, but to be honest I have no idea whether this is at all feasible and what it would involve. Any comments or input welcome! 

2/ In Europe the Taifun is subject to a 3000-hr inspection which costs in the region of 10000-15000 Euros. Is this also required in the US? If so how do owners go about it? And if not, are there any owners out there with high-time Taifuns? What kind of airframe problems have you encountered?

3/ Is there some kind of website that deals specifically with the Taifun and where one can find resources etc? For instance, I am trying to find a Maintenance Manual, any ADs etc. If anyone has these floating around I would be most grateful for a copy. I speak German as well, so the original German document would also serve me fine.

We got one of the few Taifuns around and we just have the German manuals (flight, maintenance, etc.) in paper. 

Does anyone have these manuals in English? Or at least the German ones in PDF to try some automatic translation.

I'm not sure if you are aware but the first flight to Himalaya in Motorglider was with a Taifun 17E, back in 1985.

I'm in the final stages of completing the restoration of Taifun 17E II. I will require dual flight instruction prior to my initial test flight, as its been some time since I last flew the Taifun. My ratings include SEL Private, Comm Glider, and CFIG.

Is there an owner or CFIG on the East Coast who would be willing to provide instruction in the Taifun? I'm located in the Philadelphia area.

probably most of those reading this forum also read the Yahoo group "taifun17e" which is shuting down.  I thought about installing a mailing list as replacement, but Peter (goflysoon) threw in some legitimate doubts about this endeavour and suggested to use this forum instead if there are no significant advantages.

One of the possible advantages is that I surely get everything that is posted immediately.  Therefore, with this post (and maybe also others following it) I want to see if I get notified about it being put into the forum.
