Motorglider Service Life
The motorglider service life corresponds to 3,000 flight hours. The service life can be progressevely
extended to 4,000, 5,000 and 6,000 flight hours if the scheduled inspections described on
BS100-10-021 are performed at authorized workshops. In case you need to extend service life
even more, previous authorization must be obtained from the aeronautical certification authority.

	I'm on the verge of buying a Ximango, but discovered that I cannot fold/unfold the wings by myself. At 66 y.o., 5'8", 150 lbs and with the body build of a typist, I can get the outer wing panel to within 25-30 degrees of vertical, but no further. As one lifts and hand walks from the tip, one gets closer to the fulcrum and runs out of leverage. The amount of force required increases until I can move it no more. Anyone have tricks or gadgets to overcome this problem?

	I am looking one used AMT-200S and what I found very strange is its weight; it is almost 660 kg, while technical data says 620 kg. It is well equiped, but when I check weights of individual parts installed, I can't explain 40kg difference, not even close to.

	Could generous instrumentation (clasical and dynon glass cockpit, transponder, elt and a few other things) still be a reason for 40 kg added weight? Was there high variation in weight during manufacturing process, so this airframe was 'unlucky' and is overweight? Or that aircraft is likely to be damaged and repaired?

	The problem is that 660 kg empty weight means 190kg payload and only 30 kg is left for fuel if me and my wife board the plane 😞

	I have heard and seen various numbers. Measurements based on any one fill-up aren't very accurate due to the rather small amounts of fuel involved. Measuring over long periods is more numerically accurate, but also sweeps over many different operating conditions. Still FWIW, in the past 1.5 years, Val Gal swilled 318 gallons of 100LL. There's a fair amount of ground running at my home field, both to get OT up to 50 deg C and a 4,000 foot taxi to the most-used runway. When the master switch is on for in-hangar maintenance, I usually have that Hobbs (airframe time) disconnected. The second Hobbs, switched on by oil pressure, I'll call tach time and includes some A to B cruising and motor-soaring with the engine at idle. And ~ 10% of the time, the noisy fire hazard was off (yay!) Anyway:

	Airframe: 100.3 hours --> 3.14 gph

	Engine: 90.3 hours --> 3.48 gph

	My standard cruise is with coarse pitch and 5,000 rpm. The steam gauge reads ~104 kt, the Dynon, ~98 kt. (?!). After recently fixing some fuel delivery issues and a carb overhaul and balance, my present best guess is that takes 4.0 gph. [Before the fixes, it was as high as 6 gph!]

	So right at 30 sm per gallon or better when including TAS. I'm pretty sure that flying at the Carson Speed (1.32 x best glide, clean) of 79 kt, it will eek out 40 mpg.

	For this period, $1500 for fuel, $3300 for insurance. 😒

	I'd love to hear the experience of others ...

	I'm sorry to report that the time and expense to support, maintain, patch, and defend against security exploits for this community software is too high given its usage. Please make download or make copies of desired content. If I can shut the system down by Jan 1, I can save $400 in direct costs. Plus the security issues can impact my server. Getting the community software people to host and support the software is probably another $1K to $2K per year, depending upon usage.

	The recent news of a certified unleaded replacement (now only by STC) for 100LL has the GA world abuzz. Odds are pretty high that a 100UL will be replacing 100LL sooner rather than later. However, this could present a big problem for Ximango owners and others airplanes produced in small volume or for those whose manufacturers are now defunct. Many will run just fine on UL100 or 94UL or mogas, but specify only 100LL on their original airworthiness certificate and are hence only legal to fly with 100LL. Presently, if I understand it correctly, this can only be changed upon petition and proof from the airframe manufacturer. (Approval by the engine manufacturer alone is not sufficient.) Even if the original manufacturer exists (and some, Aeromot, just barely), what motivation do they have to make such an effort - one that earns them nothing? Going the STC route is not a much better alternative when the sales potential may only number in the dozens.

	Hopefully, the FAA will declare UL100 or whatever as a functional and legal replacement for 100LL without the potential paperwork nightmare which will otherwise follow. Or potentially worse, the grounding of hundreds of perfectly good airplanes, including ours.

	While this forum seems about dead, consideration should be given to banding together to get the appropriate STCs needed to keep 'em (legally) flying. Opinions?
