mikeschumann
I have been notified by the FAA that the official ICAO aircraft type code for a Phoenix Motorglider is "U15". They are currently upgrading their handbook to reflect this. This type code will work with ICAO format flight plans effective immediately

Russowens
Great news. Should save us time and effort in trying to explain when coordinating with ATC. Russ
Russowens
Well, here is is 5 months later and ATC is still unable to find U15 in the system to identify Phoenix as an aircraft type. Is anyone having luck with this? Russ
mikeschumann
I just confirmed with my FAA contact that the U15 aircraft code should now be operational. When was the last time you tried to use it with a flight plan?
Russowens
U15 has been working great now for an ATC Aircraft Identifier. I tell ATC that I am a U15, then they tell the next guy to look for a Phoenix Motorglider as traffic when appropriate. Thanks Jim Russ
