Do you have a part number for these rings? That would help finding them!

Is there more than one type of piston ring set or are all 109b 2500 engines the same?

I just got an email from Grob saying they no longer carry parts for the 2500 engine (as of 2005). I wish I new that when I bought it. Anyway, thanks for the response. Do you know of a company that might sell rings for this engine series? My last resort is a guy in CA who can custom make me a set.

    Bill,

Try cross referencing the rings with the 1981, VW Type 4, Vannagan engine. There is a fair shot they are the same. Many of the dune buggy shops carry parts for the older VW engines. They are usually 3rd party parts and come in varied quality.
Personally, I don't recommend this. The rings are too important to be using an unknown quality. I recommend you bite the bullet and purchase them from Airborne Composites. Then you know you are getting top quality rings. The shipping would be reasonable on a lightweight package. The few extra bucks will be more than compensated by your peace of mind. Just a suggestion.

Have a look at a Porsche maintenance shops as your engine might be a modified version of it.

    Hi Folks,

I have had to get the engine parts directly from Limbach. Peter Salomon is the person who takes care of parts orders in English. His email is peter.salomon@limflug.de Tell him what you want and he will quote you a price in Euros. After the shock you can confirm with him and they will ship. It took about 6 weeks to get my parts so designate a different method than postal if you need them soon. Because of the time difference expect about a day between email responses. The phone for Limbach is 02244-9201-44 fax 02244-9201-50.

    Good luck,
    Dave

Just out of curiousity, if you DID know that rings
were hard to get for the 2500 engine, what would you
have done different before buying the 109B?

Perhaps a 109 with the Limbach instead?

I ask because I'm getting ready to buy a 109 myself
and thought you might have some interesting input to
    consider.

Not so fast guys/gals on ruling out Grob....
Earlier this year I spoke with Michael Reinhold at Grob in Germany (49-8268-998-105) and he said certified parts should soon, within months, be available for the 2500 engine.

Hey Ray, would you buy the aircraft already...?!! We look forward to you becoming a CONTRIBUTOR to our group.
    Thanks,
