Abstract: Discussion about access to the strobe power unit.

    My Grob is a 1983 G109B, SN 6229.

I haven't found the strobe light power unit under or behind the seats. I have yet to explore removing the floor boards and baggage area rear bulkhead. To preclude extra work and potentially ripping off the glued on carpeting - does anyone know where the power unit is located?

A wiring harness labeling diagram would be a real benefit to have if any of you have access to one, if such even exists. All the wiring in my Grob is nicely numbered and still legible, but a typical wire end label is 'PA1UF28U'. Sure would be nice to know this is the alternator field lead, for example.

I may be dreaming but the information may reside with one of you.

    Thanks
    Stu O.

    Stu:

You may have 3 strobe power units, one at each wingtip and one inside the base of the vertical stabilizer ahead of the rudder.

My 1985 G109B s/n 6357 did not have navigation lights or strobes installed but had strobe wires installed to the location of strobe power unit mounting bolts located at the wingtips and in the tail and position light wires to the wingtips and rudder.  When I installed strobes I had to make adapter plates between the installed mounting bolts and the 3 Whelen strobe power units that I installed in the wings and tail.  I used the installed wires.  The installed strobe wires probably have 9LA in the label and the position lights probably have 1LA in the label.

Mounting the strobe power units near the strobes minimizes the lengths of high voltage wires to the strobes.

My G109B is S/N 6337. Each wing tip strobe power unit is located
nearby the strobe itself behind a structural cross section. The aft
power unit should be located in the vertical stabilizer as suggested
    by Rolf.
The fuses are labeled 9LA for the strobes (but I have also an
indication that it could be 3LA)and 1LA for the position lights. In my
Avionik maintainance manual the strobe power units are labeled 11LA
left, 13LA right wings and 15LA (aft) or 12LA LH, 14LA RH and 16LA
aft. Probably due to different serial numbers but not clearly
indicated . The On/Off switch may be labeled 10LA. The end connectors
    are labeled 7LAo, 8LAo and 9LAo or maybe 5LAo, 6LAo and ?? the aft.

If I can add a file of the scheme on this message I will copy it to
you. If not feel free to send me your Email address I will copy it by
    return.

I take your suggestion to copy the Avionik manual for the community.
It has over 100 pages to be scanned.... I beg your patience...

I could not found the wire labelled PA1UF28U.
PA1 is given for the battery
    2PA is the main relay
    3PA is the main switch
    4PA is the main fuse
    5PA the voltmeter
    1PC is the alternator

A wire labeled PA1E6N is linked from the battery to the mass bus VV6
I could not found any other wire labeled PA1...
I could not found what corresponds to UF..

    Hope this helps

    Pierrot and Rolf,
Thanks to you both for your responses on my strobe power unit. I'll
let you know when I get to it. I was having too much fun flying this
    week to do anything else.
Also, thanks for the wiring file. It is legible as posted. It also
inspires me to get to work one of these days and scan the Grob 2500
Engine Manual I have. One of the other guys on the site was looking for
a copy earlier. I think having digital copies on file is a good idea.
Often, our older aircraft are in better and more complete shape than the
manuals. It's nice to have easy access and the ability to easily
    reproduce a page.
    Stu
