Proposed panel layout for SN26

Now that we seem to have found a good place to mount the oxygen cylinder and have a manageable solution for running the transponder during soaring flight, I've moved on to the panel layout (attached).

It shows the Dynon SkyView, along with the Dynon com radio and intercom panel, ClearNav soaring computer and vario, the standard 3.125" ASI and altimeter, and the usual circuit breakers and fuses. I'll get the Dynon ADS-B and autopilot system, but those don't show on the panel. The ClearNav computer will be surface mounted so it can be easily moved between the Phoenix and my current glider (ASH 26 E self-launcher). I will try a portable PowerFlarm unit on top of the dash above the ClearNav computer, but that won't affect the panel.

Questions, comments and suggestions welcomed.

After some discussion with Jim Lee and his experience using an iPad Mini in the cockpit, and because tablet computers in general are progressing rapidly in power and available soaring and flight planning applications, I revised my panel to allow for the easy installation of a tablet in the future. The ClearNav will now be mounted on a Ram mount so it can be easily removed and replaced with a tablet. The circuit breakers that were mounted beside the ClearNav are moved to the area above the radio and intercom units so the breakers won't be blocked if a tablet is mounted.

I've also decided the vario mounting area must be large enough to accommodate a Butterfly vario, just in case it turns out to be the super vario the manufacturer hopes it will be. I'm still expecting the new ClearNav vario to be my choice, but who knows what I'll learn in the next few months as people gain experience with both units.

If I haven't selected a vario by the time it's needed for the Phoenix, I'll temporarily swipe the Cambridge 302 vario from my ASH 26 E. I don't fly it very much during the winter, anyway.

The image shows my latest panel plan.
