R. Burton Posted June 11 Report Posted June 11 I am the proud owner of # 34. I’ve been flying it for two years now. There has always been a slight gas oder after take off even if the tanks are not full. It has now gotten worse. I have run the fuel pump and sniffed around the engine compartment and no sign of gas leakage. Yesterday after doing some circuits, as I pulled the right wing tip I noticed a strong gas smell. I have never pulled the full wings but I guess it is time to learn how. Now I’m waiting for a friend to be available to help. My question is: has anyone else experienced this issue? Also any tips and tricks or what to watch out for on the wing removal that is not covered in the manual would be appreciated. Rich Quote
Tom Clary Posted June 11 Report Posted June 11 Rich, I own #54 and had a number of fuel leak and fuel sender issues which required wing removal. Suggest you line up a glider wing stand or at least some saw horses near by. It is definitely a two person job. In my view, the most difficult part of reattaching the wings is reconnecting the three fuel quick connects. They are small and the lines are stiff. They are a likely source of your fuel leaks. Of course, Jim Lee is the expert in this. Tom Quote
Tom Clary Posted June 12 Report Posted June 12 Rich, I my view one of the quick connects may not have locked. That could allow you to go a number of years without a significant leak. Tom Quote
R. Burton Posted June 20 Author Report Posted June 20 Ok time for true confession. As we removed the right wing, I noticed a clear tube that was just floating around in the wing:). It is now being properly vented out through the wing and the air in the cockpit is clear of gas smell. Rich Quote
