Hi Bob
Were does the Taifun Squardon minus 1 get there Limbach’s and Hoffman props serviced in the LA basin. I am having a time even finding some one who knows enough to check the timing. Big Prop issue, replaced the bearings that push the thrust plate to change pitch and now won’t change at all. The pitch setting was changed when new props were installed.
Any one else have this problem with the Hoffman’s?

I may be off the mark but you might try Jim Ayers, LESS DRAG PRODUCTS, INC., (805) 795-5377, Newbury Park, CA 91320. He is expert on MT electric props for the Limbach engine and may also be knowledgeable on the Hoffman prop. As a last resort you might call Todd Marinkovich, Sales Mgr., American Propeller, (800) 292-7767 in Redding, CA and ask if he knows an A&P in your local area who adjusts Hoffman props.

You're kidding! It's a VW! I've had cylinders overhauled twice at United Machine Shop, 7955 Foothill Blvd.Sunland, CA 91040 (818)951-6422 (ask for Rubik). I think I paid $100 to have 2 cylinders overhauled a couple of years ago, and for this past annual I had one cylinder done for $25. If you are anxious to spend more than that with a 'real' pro on Limbach engines take it to Joe Horvath at Hesperia Airport; he's the owner of Revnaster (http://www.revmasteraviation.com). In or around 1967 Joe taught Peter Limbach how to convert a VW engine for aircraft use. By the way, Bob Gurr (N11VR) is the one who told me about UMS; for my money Bob's the go-to guy for info about work on the Taifun.

I know it’s a VW, but mention aircraft and nobody in my realm wants near it. Hemet Ryan didn’t even know how to time it, nor did French Valley, Sonny at Twentynine Palms didn’t either….
I do know revmaster aviation and will try UMA.

As far as annuals are concerned, ABLE AIR at Whiteman Airport has been doing my annuals for 4 years and Bob Gurr's for far longer than that;. call Steve Slonniger at (818) 899-7468, cell (818)259-2776. His guys had no problem timing the engine or working on other aspects of the Taifun.

I use a tail dolly that came with the ship that holds the wings in saddles. I made two tall saw horses out of steel tube that I set out at the wing tips. Just lift the tips from the saddles, place on the saw horses, then slip the wings in.

Hi All,
I have uploaded my prelimanary design of a folding mechanism for a Taifun wing.
Currently I am building the upper part, but I have modified it by using only an epoxy glassfiber upper wing support without the steel support frame (see picture of the mold based on the FX67 wing profile)
I will keep you all posted on the progress!
