Hello mango and shemango flyers,
Just trying to get my small brain around some maintenance queries and guessed that some of you lot will be able to provide some usefull hints.
One leg of my ximango appears to loose it pressure after standing for several weeks and wondering if I need to add more hydraulic fuid and would ordnary hydraulic oil be o.k. to use.

If the leak be a function of a weak 'o' ring is this a difficutlt job to tackle. I guess the proceedure would be to jack up the plane and undo the web or wing nuts that hold the wheel section to the ram and then undo the 5 or 6 bolts around the ram and 'hope for the best' I dare say that a lot of owners have limited knowledge on this subject but never the less it would be interesting to tackle this issue and see what knowledge is out there..

John,
I have overhauled landing gear stuts on other aircraft, but not on a
Ximango=2E I suggest asking yourself some questions first=2E Does it
leak hydraulic fluid on the hangar floor when it goes down=3F If it
does, you will need to replace the "o" rings on the hydraulic side of
the strut=2E If it goes down without leaking any fluid, then it is
leaking nitrogen gas=2E If this is the case, first check to see if the
valve core at the top of the strut is tight=2E Check for leaks here by
putting a little spit over the valve end and see if it blows any
bubbles=2E If you have no leaks at the valve, then you will need to
replace the "o" rings on the gas side of the strut=2E I would
disassemble per the manual=2E Make certain all pressure is out of the
strut before you take it apart=2E While you have it apart, replace all
the "o" rings and any other seals it may have inside=2E I am sure
Ximango USA can sell you a strut overhaul kit=2E Use only 5606
aircraft grade hydraulic fluid (red) and only nitorgen gas to charge
it up=2E Nitrogen gas is dry and will not cause corrosion inside the
strut=2E One of my struts has been leaking a little hydraulic fluid
when it gets really cold outside, but is fine when the weather is
above freezing=2E =20
Good luck, and let me know how it goes, as I will probably have to do
it too!
