Your opinion, please. Would you rather continue using the current XOG
listServ or go to Google?
ARCHIVE: This listServ has an extensive archive that goes back 7
years. I don't think we'd be able to move it to Google.

IMAGES AND UPLOADS: Google allows uploading of all sorts of file,
including images. The current XOG listServ does not.
COST: XOG costs $144 a year. Google is free.
ANNOYANCE: You'll have to register.
I haven't used Google much, so I'm not sure. Please indicate your
preference by a show of emails.

Hi Bruce
I have been thinking something similar. I am a soon to be a Ximango
owner. My bird is with XimangoUSA getting ready for me to pick up for
its trip to the Pacific NW where I live. So I am new to this group
and have been laying low until I become an official owner.
I also belong to COPA (Cirrus Owners and Pilots Organization) at http://www.cirruspilots.org/
and their website is awesome and it creates lots of interchange and
a sense of community. Of course, they have lots of members and
financially support its customization. But on a whim I have been
looking at some baseline characterisitics to potentially suggest to
this group. I was thinking we might consider getting a domain so that
we could get a few more features. If I made a list it might include:
Forums (with thread and e-mail management)
Technical Resources [manuals and technical documents]
Resource Links
Photo Albums
> aircraft & owners
> trips
Upcoming Events Calendar
My cursory review of Groups in Google shows the following:
Forums - Standard forum stuff but appears better than XOG, but not the
best out there
Pages - Custom pages can be associated with the group
Files -- resources files
Looking through the groups, it appears that some linked in Photo
Albums through a group account on Flikr. Some others also linked to a
Calendar program for events and others just uploaded event schedules
as .pdfs
So my view is that we could get a major upgrade by going to Google
Groups for the forum and linking in a Flikr account for photo albums.
If a few of us created some customer pages of resources and/or
references we would be able to cover the list and have a major upgrade.
I vote Yes. Bruce let me know if I can help.

Dear Steve,
Thanks for your helpful insights. I think Google groups allows the
creation of webpages and the like -- but that's more than I'm
capable. Most of all, it would be great to have the technical
information available once again, and hopefully we could get some
cooperation on that.

Hey Bruce,
I would welcome the move to Google, provided we can keep the forum SPAM from
outside sources to a minimum.

I am in another similar "private" or limited access group on google
that gets a lot of spam but it learns what the group considers to be
spam and sends it to a spam folder so that spam has not been a problem
at all. Occasionally I trash everything In the spam folder

Hi Bruce,
Count me "in" on the change to Google. For some reason, I have found the Xog list a bit hard to use, as you have had to send out my inquiries for to list personally--probably some software problem with my computer. Hopefully the Google list will be easier.
Thanks for being our leader in this change!
Best regards,
Holliday Obrecht

Dear Xoggers,
Your opinion, please.
Please indicate your
preference by a show of emails.
yrs, Bruce
