Yeah, if you were going to have a forced landing this guy sounds like THE
MAN to have on the yolk. In addition to an amazing flying career, he apparently
runs a company that consults on reducing risk and his methods were apparently
used to train US Airways pilots. I've also read that he's a MENSA member.

Very quick thinking on his part and a fine, fine display of piloting skills.
We also can't forget the Flight Attendants. They got all the passengers off
the aircraft as it was sinking in freezing water. Double WOW!
One of my neighbors is a Captain for US Airways. He's typed in the A-320 and
the 737, among others. He'll be home this weekend. I can't wait to talk to
him and get the inside poop on this crash. As Paul Harvey would say "now we'll
hear the rest of the story".....

Bruce,
Of course he had a glider rating. Look at all the great saves over
the years; the Canadian who ran out of gas, the 747 who flew through
volcanic ash over Indonesia and so on, all were glider pilots. It should be
mandatory for all commercial pilots. Okay, I'm an arrogant SOB but disagree
with me.
Best Regards to all glider pilots, Paul H.
