Jim Lee Posted April 8, 2022 Report Posted April 8, 2022 No, I didn't get new tires for my car. I am retired from aircraft sales with Jonker Sailplanes and Phoenix Air in order to pursue competition and record flying to a greater extent. Well, try to anyway. I just notified the SSA competition committee that I am stepping down from my US Team position at the World Gliding Championships in Hungary this summer due to the nearby war in Ukraine and the uncertainty that it brings to the area. I will still continue to support my awesome Phoenix customers with information, parts, and training. Ed Babovec is the new US agent for Pure Flight, which is producing the Phoenix. Ed is an A&P mechanic and pilot with experience importing aircraft from Europe. You can find his contact info on the Phoenixairusa.com website. I wish Ed and Pure Flight continued success with the Phoenix. Kathy and I will hang onto our Phoenix until I can't fly anymore. I look forward to some backcountry flying and fly fishing with the new larger tires which turn the Phoenix into a bush plane, of all things. My email address is now leejim17@yahoo.com Cheers, Jim Quote

tim wilson Posted January 31, 2023 Report Posted January 31, 2023 Jim, can we see the results of your "Bush Phoenix" ? Tim....who thinks a "Bush-Lambada" would be great! Quote
whsp eagle Posted June 2 Report Posted June 2 Big howdy jim lee from montana. I flew point of the mountain with you back in the 80s . Watched as you and jc went thru all the scratchers and over the wasach rage. Anyways been flying trikes scince hg days but few years ago fell off a ladder . So i have some limited disability. Cant bend to well. Have to sell my tailor craft because i cant get in. So now iam persuing the pheonix which is what i should of bought 20 years ago.I remember you as being pretty tall and i believe the pheonix has pretty good outstreached leg room to the rudder pedals. Ive never been in one . Looks a bit more supine in the seat as well as the canopy opening would alow someone more ridgged to get in. Any thoughts for a person with stiffness flying it. I Quote

Tom Clary Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 I also have mobility issues since I had polio as a child. I am able to get into the Phoenix fairly easily but I do not do it from the back. What I do is sit on the front of the wing, put my left foot on the strut (not the wheel pants) and then put my right foot into the floor of the cockpit. Tom Quote
whsp eagle Posted June 3 Report Posted June 3 Tom thank you so much for the reply. How do you like your pheonix. What you said was exactly what i imagined id have to do to get in. Iam going to have to look for a bargin on a used pheonix. Selling my montana property and downsizing . Iam also thinking i could use a small step ladder onto the trailing edge above the flapperon . But id have to secure myself with my arms on the top of the plane. Lift right leg in . Then my left and slip in. Few videos show people getting in and room. But i think the pheonix design is superb and my kind of flying. Quote

Jamie Phoenix Posted June 4 Report Posted June 4 I have a Phoenix that you are welcome to experiment with entry and egress on, located in the Tulsa, OK area. Not sure where you are, but the option is there if it is convenient for you. Quote

Not too far from me .ill get in touch with you in a week. Iam pretty shure the pheonix is the way for me to proceed with my flying . I have my soaring trike that i still can fly. But thats a 1 seater. My wife loves to fly as well i think the pheonix would fill that bill. Quote

Bit far for me but id lam going to have to find out at some point before i forgo buying one . Looks like used is a bit tough . Not shure about delivery on a new one. But ive always found patience leads to a good buy. Quote
Tom Clary Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 For me the step ladder idea does not work. I want to be able to get in the Phoenix and out of the Phoenix on my own. Getting in from the front is easy once you learn the steps. Happy to video this awkward process if it would be helpful. Tom Quote
whsp eagle Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 Tom that would be awesome of you have the time! I search i tube and look for pilots entering but thats usually the first cuts . Iam not shure what you mean by sitting and left foot on strut. Seams that would take a pretty good bend. I saw a 2010 pheonix still for sale in cali 115 gs. Total time on the 912 seems pretty high.whats your thoughts . Quote
Jamie Phoenix Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 I have one of the 3 PureFlight Phoenix's that came into the USA. I may be placing it on the market in the next month or two, if you are interested. It is fully loaded and only has about 5 hours of factory test flights on it. My number is 903 253 1192 if you have any questions... Quote
Tom Clary Posted July 14 Report Posted July 14 Here are a couple of very amateur videos of me getting in from the front. I am channeling Jim Lee when I suggest you make sure your back pockets are empty before trying this. Tom IMG_1534.mov IMG_1533.mov Quote
