Starting/ignition problem: weak sparks

Recommended Posts

Engine (Rotax 912S) does not start. During the annual inspection my mechanic installed new spark plugs. Gaps of the plugs were set according to Rotax specs.

When then checking the sparks in the plugs he said they are very weak for both magnetos - hardly visible, even inside hangar. There was no problem prior to the inspection.

Any ideas what is going on?

Thanks

Hermann

Rotax engines don't use magnetos. The 912/914 series has dual electronic ignition. These are the two black boxes you see on top of the engine. They either work or they don't is what I was told at Rotax school. I would suggest reverting back to the old plugs and see if the problem follows. If not, make sure the plug wires are seated good at both ends. Next, make sure the connections to the starter and battery are corrosion free and tight.
