Going down

Thermalseeker

A photo from my BFR in March of 2012. Instead of droning around in a C-172 with an instructor who is just trying to build time I decided to do this year's BFR in a North American T-6 "Texan". After a few minutes the instructor figured out that I was right at home in the T-6 after years of towing gliders with a 300 hp Pawnee. So, it turned into an aerobatic lesson. I learned more on this BFR than any I've had in the last 20 years. Photo taken 3-31-12

This looks like a lot of fun. My father did his Navy training in an SNJ-4/5, which is a T-6 in Navy yellow like this.

One thing is for sure, Steve, I won't ever complain about Rotax engine vibration again! That big 'ole 600 hp radial shakes enough to start a dang earthquake, especially when it was cold. This particular T-6 was a 1943 model. Considerably more nimble that I expected, too.
