The "extra" throttle on the 109B was added because of several accidents with the pilot on the
left side having to change hands from spoilers to stick and the other hand from stick to
throttle during operation at low altitudes. I don't know if an actual AD was issued or not.
However mine came with it and a limitation that the pilot in command must fly from the left
seat. I have never flown the 109 but love the 109B. When I purchased it, I had concerns that
it would have a tendency to ground loop due to the length of the wings and the narrow
spread between the gear legs. Happily, I have found no tendency towards ground looping.
The aircraft does have a tendency to weathervane in moderate gusting crosswinds especially
when taxiing. It is controllable with the application of differential braking.
