A Flight Test Evaluation of the Super Ximango Motorglider by Richard H. Johnson

Dick Johnson is famous in soaring.  As a student he worked with Gus Raspett at Mississippi State university studying sailplane scale aerodynamics.  He built the RJ-5 sailplane for testing out ideas related to laminar flow.  The sailplane is in the National Soaring Museum after being modified and restored to flight (with modern improvements) by Dieter Ennulat and Rolf Byer of the Harris Hill Soaring Corporation.

Dick Johnson was a world famous soaring competitor.  He won many national championships and was the world team several times.  He loved flying and was known for being extremely patient with people and his flying skills.

Dick wrote a series of articles for Soaring magazine where he would systematically measure the performance.  His compendium of studies is the most complete ever attempted.
