  • My fuel caps are certainly vented and so far have had no problems with
expanding 'O' rings.  What vintage cap are we talking about, the screw on or
the larger lever type ?  Does the use of premium unleaded gas have an
effect? My wings 8 months old.

The expansion of the cap seal occurred when I switched to Mogas. The
original cap is the flush lever type, as is the new one from Aircraft
Spruce. My plane is #151, 3 years old.

I feel a little guilty for mentioning the new cap since someone is not going
to drill vent holes in the cap and destroy their fuel tank. DO NOT FORGET TO
    DRILL THESE HOLES!!!!

I've got the latch type fuel tank cap.

when i started interchangin  MOGAS and AVGAS, I had to use a dremel on
the o-rings to shave off a bit.

now it works very well, regardless of fuel type.

FYI:   All this discussion so far has been about the newer  "lever-type" fuel
caps from Aircraft Spruce, not the older smaller aluminum  screw-on cap
    versions.

We are happy to see the introduction of the new cap for the later  serial
numbers - the o-ring promises  to make the gasoline choice a moot  question.

But, BE ADVISED, to install the new cap on your "certified plane", you need
a "Certification!"  We are working on that, and will let you know  ASAP.

For you owners of older planes, there IS a millimeter-type o-ring  (77mm) for
that older fuel cap (and the cap for the brake fluid reservoir) which  we
have on hand and can supply when you need it.

Please let us know - we try to please.
