HERE IS DEAN VOGEL'S RESPONSE...He is the ROTAX school instructor I referred=

The lesson (for me at least) is that the best source for ROTAX info is their=

Hi Manny,
Chuck is correct.=C2=A0 I looked it up.=C2=A0 I=E2=80=99ve never seen anythi=
ng under Rotax, but since Chuck was so insistent I thought maybe there was a=
nother name I should be looking under.=C2=A0 Sure enough there they were und=
er =E2=80=9CBombardier-Rotax=E2=80=9D =E2=80=93 all 6 of them.
They apply only to the Part 33 Certified versions of the engines, and they a=
re all FAA republishings of Rotax Service Bulletins, most of them years old=20=
by the time the AD came out =E2=80=93 in one case 4 years afterward.
I assume the engine in your Xiamango is a 912S3 =E2=80=93 in which case ther=
e are only three ADs that are listed.=C2=A0 I also assume that your engine i=
s young enough that the ADs that came out in 2002 do not apply.=C2=A0 The AD=
that came out in 2005 was based upon SB-912-036 and SB-912-040.=C2=A0 SB- -=
040 was issued in 2003 and probably doesn=E2=80=99t apply to your engine sin=
ce you have a new enough engine that it would have the new dipstick (we talk=
ed about that in class).=C2=A0 SB- -036 was issued in 2002 and was incorpora=
ted by reference in the 2005 AD.=C2=A0 The problem with that is SB-912-036 w=
as canceled in 2007.=C2=A0 So you couldn=E2=80=99t find the service bulletin=
if you tried to co
mply with the AD.=C2=A0 The pertinent information has been incorporated in S=
ervice Instruction SI-912-018 (and we did this in class).
Discussions are currently on-going with Rotax on the efficacy of the pressur=
e purge procedure.=C2=A0 Field experience is beginning to show that the proc=
edure doesn=E2=80=99t do such a good job of venting the lifters.=C2=A0 The i=
nspection portion of the instruction is important though, as it=E2=80=99s th=
e only way to tell if you have a collapsed lifter.
If all the above assumptions are correct, you effectively have no ADs on you=
r engine.=C2=A0 If you have information that is contrary to my assumptions,=20=
let me know and we can detail what is effective for your engine.
Thanks for the feedback,
Dean
