You blokes, if possible, should think about coming here for our summer as it

You blokes, if possible, should think about coming here for our summer as it
is cheap for you; US$1.00 = < AUD$ 0.60 & its a long way from Iraq, and
beaut soaring.

After many amanhãs (mañanas) I have received the kit as in the SB.
Barry & Robert have also ordered one. I will see it tomorrow; Barry tells me
there is quite a bit to it.
I have had problems with oil P instrument giving intermittent dodgy
readings, probably got "all shook up" when I had that vibration problem a
while ago.

I have been to the big Avalon Airshow last weekend in Melbourne- it was
fabulous!
I was excited from the moment I walked in the gates. Highlights included old
warbirds- my favourite had to be the sleek DH Vampire. There was Hawker
Hunter, Gloucester Meteor, Avenger, Spitfire, Mustangs, Sea Fury, Harvards,
Zero, EE Canberra bomber, YAK 52 ,MiG15, F-111, FA18 F15, C130, Caribou,
Super Connie, DH 82's & WW1 a/c all doing aerial displays. The
B727-(?100or200) was actually really nice seeing it do a few CCTs - I think
that must have used a large % of the New Zealand AF's annual budget.(I'm
allowed to kiwi-bash, its an Aussie tradition.) The Airbus Beluga brought
over a "Eurocopter" to try to flog to our RAAF. Seeing that heli. loop &
invert was quite remarkable. Of course hundreds of interesting a/c on static
display, an old glider display also.
I had a look at the new 912S Super Dimona Extreme... nah, I dont want to
swap !

Have a look at the TL 2000 Sting also on that page. I have seen one in the
flesh
and it is a lovely little aircraft & very impressive specs.
I happen to own a Swiss paraglider also unfortunately called "sinus" and I
can tell you I am ribbed mercilessly by the blokes, accompanied by peals of
laughter. Must be a Euro thing. Here in Oz, complaining "I've got sinus"
describes a painful & unsightly medical ailment.

I had ?carb icing for the first time last week- hot OAT but humid. I had
been soaring for a fair while & engine very cold. Warming up at low RPM ( in
sink!) it was nearly to green line on oil temp & had to push up the RPM to
4000, as the throttle was advancing it happened; a big drop in RPM. I
thought that it might have been some crap in the carby & immediately changed
tanks- no difference. I was about to drop the gear & land in a paddock when
it cleared after 10 or 20 seconds. Interesting!
On landing Tanks much lower than usual (planned) - 8 litres & 10 litres
stirred up from soaring.
I spoke to the CFI where I landed & he reckoned it was carby icing.
Anyone else with the 912A had this happen?

Also, has anyone anylysed the fuel consumption on the 912A ? e.g. the
av.cruise setting I use is 4400 or 4600 RPM. Sometimes I use higher
settings, but have not done so enough collate figures. Surely some of you
blokes have done so already!
I suppose my question is thus; how high can you push up the throttle without
the fuel consumption going through the roof? Is there a sweet spot?
The other thing is I know I can sustain over 5000 RPM, but I dont tend to do
so as I think it is just extra work for the engine.
What are your thoughts, fellas?

If I get 10 more gliders with owners pics, I promise to post a pic of
myself & VH-ZBN. Hows that for incentive?
Fortunately my glider is much better looking than me so the whole picture
isn't too unsightly.

Its been a bit quiet on the XOG apart from "spoilers" and as a female,
surprisingly I did not even feel tempted to contribute to "cleaning
products".
However, I've had another fun idea, how about we post our Club websites?

It is the best XC soaring country and very beautiful in its colours &
vastness, truely "big sky country". You could shut your eyes, point, & find
a suitable outlanding paddock 90% of the time. The blokes there really took
an interest in me & helped me with my Nav & then Independent Operator
status. They didn't have to help, but did so because they are nice people. I
havent got lost (yet).
My first club that I still sometimes visit is www.byrongliding.com/ It is in
a top spot for scenery, & ridge soaring, but thermalling is locally limited
to usually 4000' due to the coastal influence. There is some good Wave at
times & one pilot who is also a surfer likes to ride the fronts as they move
in up the coast, in the Scheibe 25B Motorfalke !( now with a jabiru 2200cc
motor pocket-rocket). The area is a big tourist destination. Its hard to get
lost if you keep the blue bit on the right if your heading north. Rick
Holtgren's Ximango, 200.068 VH-KIR lives there.
On the Byron website, ensure you click to "links" button then "Morning
Glory".
Oh, its much better even that THAT.
Anyway I'll shut up & let someone else have a go.
