  • GLIDERS COMPETE IN TRANSCONTINENTAL RACE
As a testament to how far aviation has advanced in a century, 40 gliders
competing in four classes were to launch yesterday from Llano, California,
for the Return to Kitty Hawk 2003 Transcontinental Glider Race. They will
eventually arrive in North Carolina to celebrate the Wright brothers'
first flight over the sand dunes of Kill Devil Hills.

is broken up into 12 legs over 17 grueling days, meanders through the
Southwest then turns to the northeast to take racers through the Midwest.
Some of the top soaring pilots in the country have signed up for this
event. You can follow along on the Web site
